Le Tapis de Fleurs 🌷🌹🌼🌻

Every two years, the cobbles of the Grand-Place in Brussels are covered with an amazing flower carpet. Taking up 1800m2 of the city’s main square is transformed with begonia’s, dahlia’s, grass and bark.
With nearly 1 million flowers to be laid, they manage to complete it in less than 8 hours.

Every year, there is a different theme. The 2018 flower carpet’s theme is Mexico. It’s dedicated to Guanajuato, a Mexican region with a particularly rich floral culture and tradition.

The first Flower Carpet of Brussels was created in 1971 and has been a showstopper every two years on the Grand-Place since 1986.

You also get the chance to visit the balcony of the town hall, which offers a wide-angle view of the magical carpet below. A musical theme is also put together and a concert is given every evening accompanied by a sound-and-light show.

The flower carpet is only on display in Grand-Place for one weekend, four days and that’s it. It does get crowded, especially if it’s sunny – but of course, everyone wants to see a glimpse of this amazing flower display.

The next flower carpet will be on display in Brussels Grand-Place in 2020.
